Lyrics
[Verse 1] I heard something in the window, not a voice, but close enough. Like the house had learned to breathe through all the places I had shut. I kept still beneath the covers, counted every passing sound. There are nights when being quiet feels too much like being found. [Verse 2] I have carried names like weather, worn them heavy on my skin. Every promise from before me trying still to pull me in. But the wind does not remember who my father said I was. It just moves across my body without asking for my blood. [Pre-Chorus] It took years to call this living. It took longer to believe that a heart can keep on beating without asking to be freed. And if I open both my hands now, will there still be something there? [Chorus] Come down, sky. Come down hard. Shake the windows, wake the dark. Let the thunder find the rooms where I learned to disappear. Take the name they gave me. Leave the one I chose. If the storm must know me, let it know me whole. I am here. I am here. I am still here. [Verse 3] There are people I could ruin just by loving them too near. So I learned to make a distance and then called the distance care. But they keep finding all the pathways I have covered up with snow. They keep standing at the doorway like they already know. One has seen me at my cruelest. One remembers how I laughed. One can read the oldest language written underneath my past. And I cannot keep pretending that I do not want them back. [Pre-Chorus] It took time to stop believing that affection had a price. It took love to make me frightened. It took fear to make me fight. [Chorus] Come down, sky. Come down hard. Shake the windows, wake the dark. Let the thunder find the rooms where I learned to disappear. Take the name they gave me. Leave the one I chose. If the storm must know me, let it know me whole. I am here. I am here. I am still here. [Bridge | nearly whispered] I don't need the heavens gentle. I don't need the road made clean. Let the rain come through the ceiling. Let it touch what no one sees. There is something under all this that was never theirs to keep. There is something still alive here. There is something still in me. [Instrumental Swell] [Final Chorus | full voice, layered harmonies] Come down, sky. Come down hard. Break the lock and flood the yard. Let the old walls shake around me. Let them finally lose their shape. Take the blood but not the body. Take the history, not the name. If tomorrow finds me standing where the ruins used to be, I will not call it surviving. I will call it choosing me. I am here. I am here. I am still here. [Outro | solo vocal] And for once, the sky knows my name because I told it.
