Lyrics
[Intro] Yomar! (Guitar plays a slow, minor pentatonic riff. The organ swells softly in the background.) [Verse 1] (Male Lead - deep, gravelly voice) The moon went hiding, behind a cloud of grey Yeah, the moon went hiding, behind a cloud of grey I’ve been sitting in this kitchen, watching my spirit drift away (Background Singers: Drift away... Lord, drift away) [Verse 2] (Male Lead) I checked my pocket, all I found was lint and lint alone I said I checked my pocket, all I found was lint and lint alone Tried to call my baby, but there’s a ghost on the telephone (Background Singers: No one’s home... no, no one’s home) [Chorus] (Male Lead & Background Singers) Oh, it’s a midnight rain (Background: Falling down on me) Yeah, it’s a heavy pain (Background: Set my po' soul free) I’m walking ‘round in circles, with holes in both my shoes Just a weary man, singing these old-school blues. [Bridge] (Male Lead - soulful shouting style) Now, don’t you tell me, that the sun is gonna shine! How can there be a morning, when I’ve lost this heart of mine? (Background Singers: Oooooh-aaaaah) Somebody help me... I’m sinking like a stone. [Guitar Solo] (12 bars of expressive, bending notes and "crying" vibrato) [Outro] (Male Lead) Yeah, it’s raining... (Background Singers: Rain... rain... rain) Keep on falling... (Male Lead) Lord, I’m lonesome. So lonesome. (Background Singers: So lonesome...) (Guitar fades out with one final, low E-string growl)
