Lyrics
Just a Friend [Verse 1] You said her name when you were half asleep But I know dreams can get a little weird And when she called at 2:03 You said she’d had a bad night, needed someone near There was lipstick on your coffee cup But maybe she just took a drink And you’ve been staying late a lot Guess work gets crazy more than people think [Pre-Chorus] Mama says I oughta ask you My friends all roll their eyes But they don’t know you like I do And you’ve never been the lying kind [Chorus] She’s just a friend, that’s what you said So I don’t know why they’re filling my head With little things that don’t mean anything Like her perfume on your jacket sleeve She’s just a friend, I know it’s true She just happens to know everything about you Your favorite song, your Friday plans Why you won’t let me hold your hand When she walks in But I’m not worried No, I understand She’s just a friend [Verse 2] She left her earrings in your Chevrolet You laughed and said she loses everything And that picture from the lake last May You said the way she leaned on you don’t mean a thing You changed your password last July But everybody needs some privacy And when I asked why you said her name Before I even asked who texted me [Pre-Chorus] Daddy says your story’s changing My sister says I’m blind But love means giving someone trust And I’ve always given you mine [Chorus] She’s just a friend, that’s what you said So I don’t know why they’re filling my head With little things that don’t mean anything Like her perfume on your jacket sleeve She’s just a friend, I know it’s true She just happens to know everything about you Your favorite song, your Friday plans Why you won’t let me hold your hand When she walks in But I’m not worried No, I understand She’s just a friend [Bridge] Tonight you said you’re working late So I brought dinner by your place Your truck was there, the lights were low Her car was parked out by the road I almost knocked, but then I thought You’d probably say I worry too much So I drove home and wrote you goodnight And told myself everything’s alright ‘Cause you wouldn’t do that Not to me And she probably just Needed somewhere to be [Final Chorus] She’s just a friend, that’s what you said And I believe every word in my head There’s always some good reason why You turn your phone over when I’m by your side She’s just a friend, and I trust you Even if everybody says I shouldn’t want to And if she knows the way you kiss Well, maybe she just guessed at it So I’m not worried I know how this ends You’ll come back home And she’ll still be Just a friend [Outro] You said she’s just a friend So she’s just a friend
