Lyrics
[Verse 1] I learned to smile when everything hurt Painted my feelings on a borrowed shirt Everybody laughed when I played the part Nobody saw the cracks inside my heart I made a face so nobody knew How much I was breaking in plain view Every joke covered another scar Like hiding a storm behind a shooting star [Pre-Chorus] Look at me now I’m fading from sight The mirror knows things I can’t say out loud tonight [Chorus] Funny face, painted grin Trying to hide the mess within Pull the corners of my mouth up high So nobody asks me why I cry Funny face, don’t erase Every tear I’ve learned to trace I’m tired of pretending I’m okay When all my colors wash away [Verse 2] The photographs say I was doing fine But every smile was a carefully drawn line I kept the mask where everyone could see And buried the rest of me underneath [Bridge] If I could peel away the paint Would there be anything left to save? Or just another lonely ghost Wearing yesterday’s mistakes [Final Chorus] Funny face, falling apart Pieces dropping from my heart No more hiding in the masquerade No more smiling while I fade Funny face, finally free Showing who I used to be And if the world can’t look away At least they’ll see the real me today
