Child of the Seventies

SONG ANALYSIS Theme: The slow, quiet erosion of childhood innocence and the discovery that a piece of it still survives inside the adult. Story: A man looks back on being a child of the seventies — barefoot summers, cardboard castles, absolute belief — then watches that certainty fracture through questions, loss, adolescence, and the weight of ordinary life. In the end he realises the child never fully left. Primary Emotion: Bittersweet nostalgia. Secondary Emotion: Tender, hard-won hope. Energy Curve: Sparse and reflective → steady emotional build → full-band release → quiet, lingering return. Best Musical Direction: The previously chosen warm, human, gradually stacking psychedelic indie-rock hybrid with soulful funk, reggae pocket, blues feel and atmospheric textures. It gives the song space to breathe, room to ache, and a natural path from intimate memory into cathartic remembrance. CHOSEN STYLE Same as before: Psychedelic indie rock fused with soulful funk, reggae grooves, blues and atmospheric alternative rock. Instruments gradually build like live looping. Expressive electric guitar at the centre. Intimate, slightly raw soulful vocals. Warm, human, groovy, emotional, psychedelic and slightly imperfect. 120 bpm. SUNO VERSION [Intro] [soft] [intimate] [close mic] Once a child... Once full of innocence Child of the seventies Born of the flowers That powered that realm Mmm... Once a child [Verse 1] [soft] [intimate] Bare feet running through the summer grass Every afternoon was built to last Cardboard castles underneath the stairs Every empty box could take me anywhere Grown-ups always seemed to know the way Every promise meant exactly what they'd say Bad guys lost and good guys always won And every morning came with another sun [Refrain] [breathy] [close mic] Once a child Once full of innocence Nothing underneath Nothing in between I believed Because believing Was the easiest thing [Verse 2] [smooth] [intimate] Then came questions nobody could explain Why some people leave and don't come back again Why a friend could suddenly turn away Why "forever" didn't always mean they'd stay I learned that grown-ups sometimes make mistakes Smiles can hide the choices people make Good and bad weren't written black and white And being right didn't always make things right [Instrumental] [build] Mmm... Something changed I couldn't name it then [Verse 3] [raw] [close mic] Teenage years came knocking at the door Music got louder than it was before First taste of freedom, first taste of fear First time wishing I could disappear Started seeing cracks behind the paint Heroes became human, heroes became strange Every answer opened something new And every little truth changed what I knew [Chorus] [harmonized] [lift] Once a child Once full of innocence Child of the seventies Born of the flowers That powered that realm Where did he go? When did he leave? Was it one moment Or piece by piece? Did I lose him somewhere Along the way? Or did he simply Grow into me? [Instrumental] [wah] [delay] [Verse 4] [intimate] [raw] Years kept coming faster than before Dreams got smaller just to fit the door Days became something you planned ahead Instead of adventures underneath the bed Money mattered Time got tight People disappeared from life And somewhere between Then and now I stopped asking Why and how [Breakdown] [stripped back] [half time] Piece by piece Day by day Nobody takes Your innocence away You just learn You just see You become Who you're going to be [Bridge] [build] [live looping] But sometimes... When an old song plays From another time Something moves Somewhere inside A bicycle A summer road A radio A place called home And for a moment I remember him [Full Band Climax] [powerful] [explode] [harmonized] Once a child Still somewhere in me Child of the seventies Running wild and free Born of the flowers That powered that realm I thought I had lost him Maybe I never did Maybe growing older Doesn't kill the kid Maybe innocence changes But something survives A little piece of wonder Still hiding inside [Solo] [soaring] [emotional] [wah] [delay] [Outro] [soft] [intimate] [stripped back] Once a child... Once full of innocence Child of the seventies Born of the flowers That powered that realm Mmm... Once a child Still a child Somewhere
