Lyrics
Vester — “Don’t Perform for Me” [Verse 1] You don’t have to fix your hair Before you come to bed Don’t have to find the right words For what’s inside your head You don’t have to smile If tonight you’re tired You don’t have to turn yourself Into something I desire I like the silence When you let it stay I like your face When you forget to pose that way And if you don’t feel beautiful You don’t have to lie Come here exactly how you are And let the night go by [Pre-Chorus] You don’t have to impress me You don’t have to try You don’t have to become What you think I like [Chorus] Don’t perform for me Just breathe You don’t have to be Anything Don’t perform for me Come close Let me know the part Nobody knows Leave the makeup Leave the lines Leave the version You rehearsed outside Don’t perform for me Tonight I already like What’s underneath the light [Verse 2] You can leave your dress Across the chair You can keep it on I really don’t care You can talk too much You can say nothing You can change your mind In the middle of everything You don’t owe the room A softer voice You don’t owe my hands A certain choice And if all you want Is somewhere warm Then lay beside me Till the morning comes [Pre-Chorus] You don’t have to impress me You don’t have to try There’s nothing you could prove That I need tonight [Chorus] Don’t perform for me Just breathe You don’t have to be Anything Don’t perform for me Come close Let me know the part Nobody knows Leave the makeup Leave the lines Leave the version You rehearsed outside Don’t perform for me Tonight I already like What’s underneath the light [Post-Chorus] No show No stage No perfect little way To make me stay No lines No scene Just come here And be with me [Verse 3] I know sometimes you watch yourself Through everybody’s eyes Checking every little move Before you let it rise Baby, put that mirror down You’ve been standing there too long I’m not here to grade you On the ways you might be wrong I wanna hear the laugh You try to hide I wanna know the thoughts You swallow every night I wanna know the woman When nobody else is near Not the one who learned What everybody wants to hear [Bridge] If you’re nervous Be nervous If you’re quiet Be quiet If you want me Come find me If you don’t I won’t fight it If you’re messy Stay messy If you’re tired Come rest I don’t need perfection I just want what’s left When the room gets still When the mask comes down When you stop wondering If I’m still around Look at me I’m still here [Soft Chorus] Don’t perform for me Just breathe You don’t have to be Anything Don’t perform for me Come close Let me know the part Nobody knows Leave the makeup Leave the lines Leave the version You rehearsed outside Don’t perform for me Tonight I already like What’s underneath the light [Final Chorus] Don’t perform for me Just stay You don’t need the perfect thing To say Don’t perform for me Come near You can leave your whole self Right here No show No scene No better version You need to be Don’t perform for me Tonight Baby, you were enough Before you walked inside [Outro] Come as you are Stay as you are No stage No lights Just breathe Tonight.
