Get Outta My Head

It went quiet. I thought it was over. The walls are sweating, floor is shaking I’m walking circles, my patience breaking A tape loop on a broken deck You jam, rewind, then start again I can feel the edges going Something in me isn’t holding Get outta my head, get outta my brain You wear the same groove deeper again Out of the skull, out of the bone I need one thought that stays my own Get outta my head Get outta my— Head. (Out of my—) (Out of my—) (Out.) Give it back. Turn down the volume, silence the noise I’m losing my grip, I’m losing my poise You’re crawling under, you’re digging deep Till I can’t tell what part is me I can feel the outline thinning Something else is getting in Get outta my head, get outta my brain You wear the same groove deeper again Out of the skull, out of the bone I need one thought that stays my own Get outta my head Get outta my— Head. (Out of my—) (Out of my—) (Out.) Give it back. My mouth moves. Nothing comes. My pulse— then another one. I know that sound. I know that breath. I just don’t know which one is left. I bit my tongue till I tasted metal Held it down till my whole frame buckled Now every nerve is pulling against it Every locked jaw coming unhinged You don’t get another inch You don’t get what’s left of me Get out— GET OUT— GET OUT OF MY HEAD! (Get out) (Out—out—out) (My head) (Give it back) Get outta my head, get outta my brain You wore the same groove deeper again Out of the skull, out of the bone I’m taking back what should be my own Get outta my head Get outta my blood You’ve had enough You’ve had enough Get outta my head Get outta my— HEAD! Gone. Out. Leave. I said— get— out.
