This song was written about someone who was my best friend. About a year ago, I was struggling with my mental health and she stayed up way past her bedtime to chat with me and that conversation I had with her really changed my life. Later that night, I had a dream where both of us were walking by the beach. She moved somewhere further from me and our friendship kind of drifted away. I broke my ankle and my mental health took a toll again, but I didn’t have her this time. It was when she posted some photos with her new friends at a beach that the whole vision for the song hit, and it became my Sunovision song. My friend never heard the song, but many others from Sunovision did and I was honestly blown away with all the positive comments I got. And I honestly did not expect to even make it past the first round. Most importantly, life started getting better since Sunovision and I found my creativity again ☺️ —————————————————— [very short instrumental intro] [verse 1] they said write a song worth a quarter million but i’m broke in ways no credits could be fillin’ so i’m walking where the ocean calls your name where the sunset doesn’t care about life’s game [pre-chorus] gold on the water, burning for free no vault could hold what you gave me this moment, small, unsellable, stays etched in the shore ’til the waves take it away [chorus] and if this is all i have to spend your shoulder, your presence, the salt in the wind then let me lose the prize they crave if i can write the night you stayed... the night you stayed [instrumental] [verse 2] what’s worth more? a number i can’t feel? or the remnants of a memory that’s real? your feet walked with mine that day no spotlight, no stage, no accolades [pre-chorus] sun sinking like a threadbare crown i’d trade every credit just to slow it down proof i’m breathing, proof i’m known proof i didn’t walk this beach alone [chorus] and if this is all i have to spend your shoulder, your presence, the salt in the wind then let me lose the prize they crave if i can write the night you stayed... the night you stayed [instrumental] [bridge] tell ‘em keep their cash and gold i’m too tired to be bought or sold if you remember me this way then i already got paid [chorus] and if this is all i have to spend your shoulder, your presence, the salt in the wind then let me lose the prize they crave if i can write the night you stayed... the night you stayed [instrumental] [outro, stripped back] barefoot sermons wash away sunset fading into grey but i was here, with you i stayed
