------------ NOTE ------------ Sometimes it helps opening your mind a bit. I've wanted to do a song with a bunch of film editor jargon for a while, and thought the whole "obsession" and "tunnel vision" angle would work well, since that's usually how your mind gets when you're grinding away on an Avid timeline on a time limit. So yeah, lots of little references and puns here, (and my favorite one is pretty niche, I'll be impressed if you catch it!) ------------ LYRICS ------------ The same old sequence going round and round, Perfection in the first scene is consuming you, Replay the video a million times to find the right sound, So focused on scene one, you never get to scene two Your eyes are like a camera, And nothing else exists, Just a focus on what's in front of you, Who cares what you might have missed, A piece of tape is missing from the VHS, Which you ignore the rest of the film to find, A little blip in your head, Is taking over your mind, Yeah, shut up, Stop, Rewind. The tunnel in your vision is causing all the friction, Listen to the world you choose to ignore, Missing frames re-framed, instead of starting over, Do you think the same hallway needs to be filmed anymore? You see one bad cut, don't have to let it linger, Take a deep cold breath and start over, So much focus on the hands showing you the finger, You don't notice the one on your shoulder. You keep re-linking and consolidating, Just what is it you're trying to find? Shutting off the lights to find something illuminating? Oh, shut up, Stop, Rewind! (come on) Would it destroy your world? (to take your eyes off the lens?) Oh would it destroy, your world? (would it cause you offense?) (control 8), (control 8), It has no effect. (control 8), (control 8), Try something else. No such thing as the right track, Turn your head and you'll see a field, Go left and go right, and, See your simple obsession is no big deal, Remember life is bigger than the flickering screen, And the board is larger than the keys you bind, Stop stuttering and focusing and everything between, Take a simple step back and listen to these words of mine: Shut up, Stop, Rewind! (rewind!)
