Wartime Cartoons EDM - (strobe lighting/ epilepsy warning)
This track is a heavy, electro-swing deconstruction infused with aggressive brostep drops, built directly from the 1943 Private Snafu instructional short, "Rumors." Originally directed by Friz Freleng out of Warner Bros.' infamous, dilapidated "Termite Terrace" studio, the cartoon was designed to warn WWII enlisted men about the destructive nature of military gossip. I ripped the original 1940s audio from the archival master positives to build this track. Mel Blanc's iconic, darkly comedic vocal performances have been surgically extracted and mapped to a high-energy arrangement. By isolating the original mid-century dialogue and stripping away the orchestral background, Snafu’s bumbling paranoia becomes the anchor for a massive, bass-heavy rhythm section. It's a raw collision of vintage World War II subversive animation and modern sound design. Drop a comment and let me know which classic 1940s cartoon you want to hear flipped next!
[NARRATOR] A rumor is a baloney that’s beefed up with lies, [NARRATOR] And it causes confusion and fear and surprise. [NARRATOR] If a rumor’s repeated, it grows and it swells, [NARRATOR] Till it’s loaded with dynamite, booby traps, and shells! [SERGEANT] Say, look at the weather, it's perfect today! [CORPORAL] Yeah, perfect for a bombing, they say! [PRIVATE SNAFU] A bombing! A bombing! Now what did he mean? [PRIVATE SNAFU] They’re gonna bomb us! I gotta let off steam! [PRIVATE SNAFU] I got a military secret. A honey! A pip! [PRIVATE SNAFU] But the enemy's listening, so I'll zipper up my lip! [PRIVATE SNAFU] But if they're gonna bomb us, I gotta tell Joe. [PRIVATE SNAFU] Now listen, Joe! Not a word, but a bombing... ya know? [PRIVATE JOE] Don’t breathe it to a soul, but I hear they’re gonna bomb! [PRIVATE JOE] At 4:00 o’clock, said Snafu, the whole place will be gone! [SOLDIER #4] Say, did you hear the news? It's a cinch, it's a bet! [SOLDIER #4] We're all gonna get it! The whole place is set! [SOLDIER #5] Set for a bombing! At 4:00 P.M. sharp! [SOLDIER #6] Get out of that water, you fish and you carp! [NARRATOR] A rumor is vicious, a horrible thing! [NARRATOR] It takes all the courage that soldiers can bring! [NARRATOR] It grows and it swells, and it takes the fun out! [NARRATOR] It causes confusion, and panic, and doubt! [PRIVATE SNAFU] They're here! They're here! Look out! Get away! [PRIVATE SNAFU] Run for your life! It’s the end of the day! [NARRATOR] Four o’clock passed, but no bombs did arrive. [NARRATOR] The boys that had panicked were still quite alive. [NARRATOR] But the panic and terror had caused the command [NARRATOR] To put the whole camp in a quarantine band. [PRIVATE SNAFU] What's the good of a secret, if I can't let it slip? [PRIVATE SNAFU] It makes me feel nervous and gives me the pip! [NARRATOR] The morale of the camp had been fractured and floored. [NARRATOR] And Snafu was where he belonged: in the psychopathic ward!
