music box on the mantle in my parents' home memories of you move through me Impossible to remove like the stain we put in their rug our final year You left me long ago Chasing something more You said you loved me Alongside your goodbyes I never forgave So why do you still hold such sway in my mind I have no say music box on the mantle in my parents' home memories of you move through me Impossible to remove like the stain we put in their rug our final year I found cold comfort in another's arms They weren't yours, still I played my part How many tears did I spend on you Waiting for you to reach out And tell me you'd made a mistake? I never forgave So why do you still hold such sway in my mind I have no say music box on the mantle in my parents' home memories of you move through me Impossible to remove like the stain we put in their rug our final year Now my parents have passed And I stand here where we used to dance To the music from the box On the mantle in my parents' home I shut the musicbox for the final time And hope to finally leave you behind I never forgave
