[Cold open] Right now, I’m acting like I can’t lose, trying to make a song out my bad news. Every second day I catch my bad mood, so when I say I’m fine, it’s only half true. I keep thinking if I say things like I’ve learnt from being hurt, then my mess becomes a lesson and the lesson makes it work. I used to carry 'round my past as if it came with a receipt, like, “look, I paid for all my damage, so the next bit should be free.” Funny how a bad year can turn charming if you wait, tell it at a party like I haven’t gone insane for most of May. But nobody gives a fuck, man, everybody’s got their thing. Some are late on rent, some are late to leave their bed. Take their meds, call that friend there’s songs I never finished sitting open on my desktop like something I’m meant to fix, fuck, next to names I never call cause I hate that little wince in my voice when I admit I’m not as good as I insist. [layered vocals] So I laugh it off in public, make a joke and let it pass. If it happened, then it happened. Nothing happens in the past. [Chorus] What about the future? Will it wait for me? I’ve been running with my head turned back at who I used to be. I don’t know, I don’t know, Nothing happens in the past, but it keeps happening to me.
