Lyrics
[Intro] I woke where the old roots twist below, With a candle grin and a harvest glow. The gate swung wide; the dead leaves spun— Pumpkin Jack is out, and the night’s begun! [Verse 1] I stitched my coat from a scarecrow’s sleeve, Pinned on a button I found Christmas Eve. The crows all bowed as I crossed the lane, And the church bell answered with a rusty clang. [Pre-Chorus] So bolt your door, but mind the latch— I know the trick to every scratch! [Chorus] Pumpkin Jack! I’m calling your name, King of the crooked and keeper of flame! Raise up your hands when the black clouds roll, I’ll rattle the windows and rattle your soul! Pumpkin Jack! Let the wild night ring— I wear the grin, and I rule everything! [Verse 2] A fox in a waistcoat led my parade, Past Mrs. Bell’s prize-winning garden gnome display. The scarecrows marched with their straw feet high, While bats made a crown in the chimney sky. [Pre-Chorus] The moon looked down; I tipped my hat— Then every pumpkin answered back! [Bridge] When the last candle gutters low, And the frost draws teeth on the window, Don’t you fret, don’t you flee— There’s a place in the parade for thee! [Final Chorus] Pumpkin Jack! I’m calling your name, King of the crooked and keeper of flame! Raise up your hands; let the whole town roll, We’ll rattle the windows and rattle your soul! Pumpkin Jack! Let the wild night ring— I wear the grin, and we rule everything! [Outro] The gate swings shut, the leaves lie still, But my candle’s lit on the farthest hill. When October comes and the crows come back— You’ll hear that laugh… Pumpkin Jack!
