✍🏻 LYRICS/COMPOSITION BY EME LATINA (2026) ------------ ABOUT: ------------ Graveyard Revival Contest Requirements: ⚰️ A Resurrected Genre A genre whose mainstream heyday has come and gone. 🧛 A Monster Costume Take on the identity of a recognizable Halloween creature. Legend has it that HE lost his head first. This is my cheeky take on how that might have happened, and, funnily enough, it ties back to a previous song I made. Consider this the prequel. Enjoy! The genre I resurrected is Jump Blues and Swing, drawing from its lively brass, bouncing rhythms, playful vocals, big-band energy, and unmistakable swagger. It felt like the perfect fit for something theatrical, mischievous, and perhaps a little macabre. For my monster, I chose the Headless Horseman. Instead of leaning into the usual terrifying version of him, I wanted to have some fun with the idea. Here, he’s the mysterious man in black and red that everyone in town warns her about, which of course only makes him more appealing. It’s ridiculous and deliberately full of bad decisions. Sometimes the scariest thing lurking in the dark isn’t the monster, but your taste in men! ------------ LYRICS: ------------ They say he rides when the church bells slow, when the windows close, and the cold winds blow... Well, I heard that tale and... Everyone wondered if he was dead, everybody insisted, “girl, stay in bed...” But you don’t need a face to turn my head, and I like the way the whole town fled... "Be wary of him," that’s what they said, but one look at you, all my good sense fled... Lose your head, lose your head, everybody says I oughta run instead, but when you ride by dressed in black and red, baby, I go head over heels Lose my head, lose my head, Hmm, what did I expect? I fell for the Horseman from his feet to his neck. (She lost her head, lost her head) I lost my head, lost my head You pulled up close and tipped no hat, which, come to think of it, explains all that, held out your hand like, “Want a ride?” I should’ve said no, but I climbed up beside... "Be wary of him," that’s what they said, but one look at you, all my good sense fled... Lose your head, lose your head, everybody says I oughta run instead, but when you ride by dressed in black and red, baby, I go head over heels. Lose my head, lose my head (She lost her head, lost her head) I lost my head, lost my head (I lost my head, lost my head) (ohhh lose her head) Come make a proper woman outta me, I hear the church bells ring... The whole town knows by now, that we have a thing! Oh(ohh) they say love is blind well, honey, so am I, ’cause I never saw your head, and I still lost mine...
