Lyrics
[Verse 1] She had a cheap red jacket And a pocket full of change She'd take the long way home Just to make the night last longer She wrote songs on bus tickets Then left them in the rain Like she never cared If anybody knew her name [Pre-Chorus] Now I pass the places Where she used to disappear Same streets, different footsteps Funny how they lead me here [Chorus] Someone I used to be Is living in the back of my mind She still leaves the window open She still sleeps with the curtains wide Someone I used to be Keeps knocking when I close my eyes I don't wanna bring her back I just wanna know why she said goodbye [Drop] Someone I used to be O-oh, ooh-ooh Someone I used to be [Drop] Someone I used to be O-oh, ooh-ooh Someone I used to be [Verse 2] I found her handwriting On the inside of a book Three words crossed out Like she changed her mind halfway through She wanted to leave the city Before the city learned her face I stayed long enough To forget what she was chasing [Pre-Chorus] Sometimes in the morning I can almost hear her laugh Then the room gets quiet And the moment folds in half [Chorus] Someone I used to be Is living in the back of my mind She still leaves the window open She still sleeps with the curtains wide Someone I used to be Keeps knocking when I close my eyes I don't wanna bring her back I just wanna know why she said goodbye [Bridge] Maybe she didn't leave Maybe I just stopped listening Maybe growing up Was learning how to lose things I don't owe her an apology She doesn't owe me one Some people disappear So another version can come [Final Chorus] Someone I used to be Still follows me home sometimes She doesn't ask for anything She just walks beside me in the night Someone I used to be I finally stopped asking why I don't need to bring her back I think she wanted me to
