Lyrics
[Intro] (Old-timey 78 RPM phonograph crackle) (Fast, syncopated ragtime piano kicks in, suddenly slammed by a pumping 4/4 house beat) [Glitchy, chopped-up vocal sample] C-c-c-cast the circle... lock the door... drop the beat... [Verse 1] Knock three times on the basement grate Order's tracking us, but they're too late Leave your silver wand at the velvet bar We’re brewing up arcane booze in a mason jar The feds got an eye on the arcane drain But they can't catch lightning in a distiller's grain [Pre-Chorus] (Bass drops out, rapid-fire clarinet runs rise up) Keep it moving, keep it hot, don't you let the rhythm stop Pour the potion, spin the glass, watch the prohibition pass If the high council knocks on the cellar floor We'll vanish through the bricks and we're out the door! [Chorus] (Pumping house kick drum, heavy synth sub-bass bounce, big horn stabs) Speakeasy sorcery, wild and bright! We're turning all the water into bottled white They banned the magic, said it was a sin But you can't put a hex back in the bottle of gin! (Frantic scat vocal run: Da-ba-da-la-ba-da-boom-zap!) Yeah, you can't put a hex back in the bottle of gin! [Verse 2] The barkeep's weaving a illusion charm Got a deck of rigged tarot cards under his arm The flappers are dancing on a levitating floor While the jazz band's scrying for a little bit more We're printing bootleg scrolls in the back of the room Just a low-level wizard making everything boom [Pre-Chorus] (Bass drops out, rapid-fire clarinet runs rise up) Keep it moving, keep it hot, don't you let the rhythm stop Pour the potion, spin the glass, watch the prohibition pass If the high council knocks on the cellar floor We'll vanish through the bricks and we're out the door! [Bridge] (Tempo pushes faster, heavy sidechain compression pumping, stuttering brass loops) [Fast, spoken scat-style delivery] Runic gin, copper tin, let the holy chaos in Mix the brew, one for you, nothing that the law can do Watch it fizz, this is biz, tell me what the secret is Skip and shift, catch the drift, give the whole grid a lift! [Guitar/Clarinet Solo Breakdown] (Frantic acoustic gypsy guitar strumming dueling a screaming hot-jazz clarinet) [Final Chorus] (Full volume, highest energy explosion) Speakeasy sorcery, wild and bright! We're turning all the water into bottled white They banned the magic, said it was a sin But you can't put a hex back in the bottle of gin! (Glitchy vocoder chop) Speakeasy... Magic! [Outro] (Pumping electronic beat fades out sharply, leaving just the lone, scratchy 1920s ragtime piano) (A sudden magic chime FX, then a metallic vault door click) [Spoken word, vintage radio filter] Drink up, mages. The law's outside. (Phonograph needle scratches off)
