Lyrics
[Intro — distant electric guitar, tape hiss, slow and spacious] [Verse 1 — intimate, breathy] The gate still hangs Half open wide Rust on the chain Grass growing high Your hoodie’s there Behind the door I don’t know why I keep it anymore There’s rain in the field Mud on my shoes Nothing out here But something of you [Pre-Chorus — barely above a whisper] I know you’re gone I know you are Still I leave the light on At Folly Farm [Chorus — dreamy, aching, long held notes] Come back to Folly Farm Come back where no one knows The weeds have covered everything But still your memory grows Come back to Folly Farm Come back to me I’ll leave the old gate wide There’s room beneath this broken roof For you to come inside [Instrumental — slow reverb guitar, faint slide guitar] [Verse 2 — soft, detached] The kitchen clock Still loses time Your coffee mug Still sits by mine I hear the boards Move in the hall Sometimes I turn Though no one called Your name gets caught Inside my mouth Like something lost That won’t come out [Pre-Chorus] I know you’re gone I know you are Still I leave the light on At Folly Farm [Chorus — slightly fuller] Come back to Folly Farm Come back where no one knows The weeds have covered everything But still your memory grows Come back to Folly Farm Come back to me I’ll leave the old gate wide There’s room beneath this broken roof For you to come inside [Bridge — stripped back, almost spoken] Maybe you forgot the road Maybe I forgot to leave Maybe every empty house Keeps something underneath I watched the headlights disappear Beyond the line of trees And every night since then I swear I hear you coming back to me [Instrumental — guitar swells, drums almost disappear] [Final Chorus — soft at first, then aching] Come back to Folly Farm The porch light’s burning low I tell myself I’ll turn it off But I never let it go Come back to Folly Farm You don’t have to stay Just stand there in the doorway Like you did before you went away [Outro — vocals fading into guitar] The gate still hangs Half open wide The light stays on The light stays on At Folly Farm
