Lyrics
# NO REPLY [VERSE 1] Your name lit up at half past nine, I let the voicemail take its time. You said you'd thought of me all week, Then asked if we could finally meet. You said, "I'm sorry how it went," But never named a thing you did. I played it once, then let it end, And didn't play it back again. [PRE-CHORUS] Back then I'd call and take the blame, For things you did and wouldn't name. This time I heard what you left out, And let the quiet answer now. [CHORUS] No reply, no reply tonight, I let the screen go dark this time. You had my hours on a string, I cut it when I heard it ring. No reply, no reply tonight, No closing speech, no final fight. You called it Catch; I know the rules, But I stopped running after you. [VERSE 2] I took the bus past where you live, The route I used to take at six. Your porch was lit; I watched it pass, Its yellow shrinking through the glass. My friends were waiting at the show, The band was setting up below. You texted, "Did you hear me out?" I read it, then I put it down. [PRE-CHORUS] I used to leave before the end, The minute that your number rang. Tonight the singer hit the hook, I stayed until the whole room sang. [CHORUS] No reply, no reply tonight, I let the screen go dark this time. You had my hours on a string, I cut it when I heard it ring. No reply, no reply tonight, No closing speech, no final fight. You called it Catch; I know the rules, But I stopped running after you. [BRIDGE – Instrumental drops, bass remains] Your number buzzed against my jeans, The drummer counted one, two, three. I killed the sound and stayed right there, And heard the fourth beat fill the air. [FINAL CHORUS – Full instrumentation] No reply, no reply tonight, I let the screen go dark this time. You had my hours on a string, I cut it when I heard it ring. No reply, no reply tonight, No closing speech, no final fight. You called it Catch; I know the rules, But I stopped running after you. [OUTRO – Vocals fading into crowd ambience] The screen went dark. The band came on. I sang until my voice was gone.
